What are dental implants?
Dental implants are basically the replacement of tooth roots. They provide a strong foundation for permanent replacement teeth that look and feel like your natural teeth.
What is the implant process?
When getting a dental implant, the process is actually very straightforward. It involves the removal of the existing tooth and placing a titanium post where the tooth used to be. Titanium is a very biocompatible metal that has proven to be outstanding for root replacement. Once that post is placed, a few months of healing is involved before you can have the implant restored with a replacement tooth. This healing process allows the body to fully accept the new implant. Once the healing process is complete, your implant is ready to be restored. This process usually takes 2-3 appointments.
Next is time to restore the implant. Restoring an implant is almost as easy as placing it. First, we use a shade guide that has an array of tooth colors and shades and match it to your natural teeth so that when we fabricate the restoration, it matches your natural teeth. Then, a digital, 3D impression is taken of your upper and lower teeth. Once the shade and impressions have been taken, we can then start the fabrication process of your new implant restoration so that it looks, feels, and functions just like your natural teeth. The restoration process is usually completed in two appointments.
What does an implant restoration cost?
The cost of an implant restoration is about the same cost as a regular crown or bridge depending on how many teeth need replacing. We would be happy to talk about whether you are an implant candidate. Call our office today at 805-568-3733
